The Silvio Vigliaturo Civic Museum of Contemporary Art is not just a showcase for Silvio Vigliaturo’s worls, but also a space dedicated to contemporary art.
The museum holds the collection of one of the most important international exponents of glass-fusion, it will be an exhibition centre and workshop for contemporary art, and a place where the public, artists and critics can meet and exchange ideas…
It aims to offer Calabria a museum that act as a sort of original observation point for contemporary art. It’s a challenge that has been taken up by the local administration of the City of Acri, with the patronage and sponsorship of the Provincia di Cosenza and Regione Calabria, in the certainty that to build a future it’s vital to open up generously to the present.
The intention is to create a continuity, to give life to a process of exhibitions, meeting, and educational activities which means the Vigliaturo Museum will undergo a process of costant change, paying particular attention to young people and their interests.
The 237 works donated to the City of Acri by Vilgiaturo, his son Valerio, artistic director, and his curator Adriano Berengo, of Berengo Fine Arts di Murano (VE), represent an important heritage of the artist’s artistic journey, but they also mark a return to his native land, to which Vigliaturo symbolically gives back those colours and intensity which are tipically Mediterranean.
The donation, the result of a selection of Vigliaturo’s works from 1961 to 2004, constitute a permanent collection, along with a temporary exposition that shows the artist’s more recent works.
